BABOETIE 
1 lg. onion, finely chopped
1/2 stick butter, divided
1/2 lb. ground beef, lamb, or venison
1/2 lb. ground pork
1 thick slice white bread
3/4 c. milk, divided
1/3 c. raisins
1 c. whole almonds, toasted and broken into pieces
2 tbsp. apricot jam
Juice of 1 lemon
1 tbsp. curry powder
1/8 tsp. oregano
Salt and pepper to taste
1 egg

Saute onion in 1/4 stick butter until soft. Add meats and bread which has been soaked in 1/4 cup milk. Add raisins, almonds, jam, lemon juice, curry powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Place the mixture in a shallow, buttered casserole. Beat 1/2 cup milk with the egg, pour 1/2 of this mixture over meat, and punch in. Dot with remaining butter and bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes. Add remaining milk mixture and bake 5 minutes or until set. May be served hot or cold.
