CHOCOLATE CAKE 
3 oz. bitter chocolate
1/2 c. hot water
1/2 c. oil
1 2/3 c. sugar
3 eggs
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
3 tsp. baking powder
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla

Cut chocolate into pieces. Add the hot water. Cook and stir over a low flame until a thick, smooth paste is formed, then cool.

Cream the oil. Add sugar, creaming while adding. Beat the eggs until thick and creamy. Add to the sugar and oil mixture, then add the chocolate paste.

Sift the remaining dry ingredients together and add alternately with the buttermilk to the first mixture. Add vanilla and bake in 9 inch pan at 325 degrees for 35 minutes.
