tried this with a local ancient grain mix (kamut, spelt, etc.) and fresh blackberries from my backyard and it turned out great-had to cook it about 10 minutes longer.

This is a great recipe, best cobbler I have ever made. I modified it on the second batch, added lemon juice, and almond extract, and covered the top completely with thawed blackberries. Great

 Tastycondiment (California) says:
Double the batter mixture, otherwise the fruit overwhelms. Also, a 2 quart casserole demands you double the batter. Very good if done this way.

 Diane (Tennessee) says:
I had just over a quart of fresh picked blackberries. I used a stick and a half of butter, mixed up 2 cups self-rising flour, 1 1/2 c. sugar, 12 oz. can of evaporated milk, and 1 tbsp. vanilla extract. Prepared it as directed, and it is wonderful. I prefer the thinly rolled out dough cobbler that my grandmother made, but this is so easy that it is a very close second to that.

Being from Australia I had never come across cobblers, followed the recipe except I used caster sugar, very nice and so easy, I will definitely be making this again.
