BURIED CHERRY COOKIES 
1 (10 oz.) jar maraschino cherries
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. unsweetened cocoa
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi sweet chocolate pieces
1/2 c. sweetened condensed milk

Drain cherries and reserve juice, stir together flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt. In large mixer bowl, beat butter until softened, add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla, beat well. Add flour mixture and beat until well mixed. Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Press down center of each with t thumb place a cherry in each center. For frosting, in small saucepan, combine chocolate and sweetened condensed milk. Cook and stir over er low heat until chocolate melts, cherry, spreading to cover cherry. (Frosting may be thinned with additional cherry juice, if necessary). Bake in preheated 350 degrees oven until done about 10 minutes. Remove to racks to cool. Makes 48 cookies.
