BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
4 eggs, separated
3 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. salt
1 c. buttermilk
2 tsp. vanilla, or desired flavoring

Assemble and measure all ingredients. First beat egg whites stiff. Then cream sugar and butter; add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Put flavoring in the buttermilk and add alternately with dry ingredients, starting and ending with the dry. Fold in egg whites. Bake in 10 inch tube pan at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
