OLD FASHIONED ROSE JAR | |
4 qt. dried rose petals 3/4 c. salt 2 oz. cloves 2 oz. mace 2 oz. whole cinnamon 8 oz. powdered Orris root Pinch of dried lavender 1 oz. rose or jasmine oil Pick rose petals in morning while dew is still on. Lay out on a paper in a dark cool place to dry. When rose petals are dry layer petals and light covering of salt in a stone crock. Continue layering until jar is filled. Crush spices slightly with a rolling pin. Pour the rose or jasmine oil over the crushed spices. Let dry a bit. (So the extra oil will not make the top leaves soggy.) Mix the spice mixture and the dried lavender into the rose petal/salt mixture. Let stand, covered, for 1 week. Stir once a day. After 1 week you can place in decorative jars with lids. |
