2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
4 whole eggs
3 c. plain flour
6 tbsp. sour milk
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. ea. cloves, cinnamon, and allspice
1 1/2 c. blackberries, unsweetened and drained

Mix sugar, shortening, and eggs thoroughly. Sift together flour, soda, cloves, cinnamon, and allspice. Add sour milk to above and mix completely. Add blackberries and blend softly. May add nuts and raisins if desired, 1/2 c. each. Frost with a creamy caramel frosting. Use as a substitute for Jam Cake-- it is just as good.
