BEST PICKLES 
Cucumbers to fill quart jar
1 tsp. pickling salt
1/2 tsp. alum
3/4 tsp. pickling spice
1 c. vinegar

Wash cucumbers, drain, cut or use whole. Put into jar and add rest of ingredients. Fill jar with cold water, seal for 3 weeks or longer. Open, rinse off, add 3/4 cup sugar, stir, and let set until next day.
