FRENCH GRAVY 
4 c. tomatoes (fresh or canned, with juice)
1 lg. onion
1 lg. green pepper
3-4 tbsp. bacon drippings
2 tbsp. sugar
1/4 - 1/2 tsp. red pepper powder
1/2 - 1 tsp. salt (to taste)

Saute chopped onion and green pepper in bacon drippings in a heavy skillet. Add sugar, red pepper, salt and tomatoes. Cook slow or simmer 45 minutes to 1 hour. Do not add more water.
