FRESH GREEN BEANS 
1 1/2 lbs. fresh green beans
About 6 c. water
1/3 lb. diced salt pork or ham hock
Salt to taste
1/8 tsp. sugar

Remove strings from beans; cut beans into 1 1/2 inch pieces. Wash beans thoroughly in cold water; set aside.

Place water in a large saucepan and add salt pork; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer about 5 minutes. Stir in beans and remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer an additional 25 to 35 minutes or until beans are tender. Yield: 6 servings.
