CHERRY BAR 
Filling:

3/4 to 1 c. sugar
2 1/2 tbsp. corn starch
1/4 tsp. almond extract
2 to 2 1/2 c. tart cherries and juices
2 tbsp. butter

Crust:

1 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. oatmeal

Combine filling ingredients, except butter, and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens and just comes to a boil. Add butter, stir and let cool.

Combine filling ingredients and place 1/2 mixture in 9x13 pan. Pat firmly and spread with cherry filling. Sprinkle rest of crust mixture on top and bake in 350 degree oven for 30 to 40 min. or until golden brown.
