JAM CAKE 
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 c. strawberry or blackberry preserves
3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. buttermilk
1/2 c. chopped pecans
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream sugar and shortening then add eggs, 1 at a time. Beat well after adding each egg. Now, put in the berry preserves and beat real well. Sift the dry ingredients and add these alternately with the buttermilk to the creamed mixture. Now, add the nuts and stir in well. Bake in greased, lined pans approximately 45 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Some berry preserves spread between the layers and on top of the cake is very delicious.
