TEXAS JAM CAKE 
3 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cloves
3/4 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs, beaten
1 c. blackberry or strawberry preserves or jam
1 c. buttermilk or sour milk

Mix dry ingredients and set aside. Cream shortening and sugar; add beaten eggs. Add jam and blend. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Bake in loaf pan at 350 degrees about 1 hour until cake tests done.

GLAZE:

1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
2 beaten egg whites

Beat until stiff and pour over cake.
