APFEL KUCHEN (APPLE CAKE) 
3/4 c. butter
3/4 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
5 Golden Delicious apples, pared & cored
2 tbsp. butter, melted
2 tbsp. packed brown sugar

Cream butter and sugar; add eggs. Beat until light and fluffy. Add vanilla. Stir in flour and salt to make a smooth dough. Spread into buttered 13 x 9 inch dish (or you can use 10 or 11 inch buttered tart pan with removable bottom). Halve apples, make cuts in apples about 1/4 inch apart. (Do not cut all the way through.) Press halves flat side down and fan out on top of batter. Brush apples with melted butter, sprinkle with brown sugar.

Bake at 425 degrees for 30 minutes or until apples are cooked through and batter is golden brown.
