1 pt. sweet milk 1/2 c. Crisco 1/2 c. sugar 1 yeast cake Heat milk, Crisco and sugar until shortening is melted. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. Add yeast to milk solution after it has cooled to lukewarm. Add enough flour to make it the consistency of cake batter. Let rise to double the size about 1 hour. When doubled in bulk, add flour to make it like biscuit dough. Add 1/2 to 1 tablespoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon salt to this last flour. Knead well. |
