“CRANBERRY SAUCE” IS IN:

CRANBERRY SAUCE
1 quart cranberries
1 quart sugar
1 pint cold water
1 tbsp. fresh lemon or orange juice (optional)

Wash berries well and put in a stainless steel saucepan. Cover with one pint cold water.

Bring to a boil; reduce heat to and simmer over low heat for 30 minutes; stir in 1/4 of the sugar.

Crush the berries lightly but do not stir. When the sugar has melted, add another 1/4 of the sugar. Reduce heat to lowest setting and continue to cook, adding the sugar a little at a time until all is used and has turned to syrup. Be sure NOT to stir!

When the berries are soft and clear, the sauce is done. Adjust to your desired sweetness. A squeeze of fresh lemon or orange juice can add a little brightness to the flavor if needed (optional).
