SAUCEPAN FUDGE CAKE | |
1 sq. chocolate 1/2 c. boiling water 1/4 c. butter 1 c. flour Speck salt 3/4 tsp. baking soda 1 c. sugar 1/4 c. buttermilk or sour milk 1 egg 1/2 tsp. vanilla Into a medium sized saucepan put first 3 ingredients. Let them melt, then cool. Have flour, salt and soda sifted and add to first ingredients, then add sugar, milk and lastly the egg and vanilla. Bake in small square pan (or in the saucepan in which chocolate was melted) in moderate oven. This recipe is over 100 years old. The cake is so moist it never dries out even if not covered, but it never lasts very long. Yields 16 servings. |
