GREAT GRANDMOTHER'S GINGERBREAD | |
1/2 c. sugar 1/2 c. butter and lard mixed 1 egg 1 c. molasses 2 1/2 c. sifted flour 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. ginger 1 1/2 tsp. cloves 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. hot water Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten egg, molasses; then dry ingredients which have been sifted together. Add hot water, beat until smooth. The batter is soft, but makes a fine cake. Bake in a greased shallow pan in 350 degree oven for 40 to 45 minutes. Makes 15 portions. |
