RUSTY'S GREAT GRANDMOTHER'S DARK
FRUIT CAKE
 
4 eggs
1 c. shortening
1/2 c. grape juice
1 c. syrup (dark Karo)
2 c. sugar
5 c. flour
1 c. fig preserves
1 c. raisins
1 c. water melon rind preserves
1 c. chopped dates
1 tsp. cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and vanilla
2 tsp. baking soda
1 lb. chopped nuts

Cream shortening and eggs. Add grape juice. Dissolve soda in syrup and add to the mixture. Add sugar and flour; mix well and add remaining ingredients. Bake at 300 degrees until done.
