RED DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. + 1 tbsp. shortening
2 tbsp. hot water
2 c. flour
1 1/8 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 unbeaten eggs
4 tbsp. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk

Mix sugar, salt, shortening and vanilla and cream for 3 minutes. Add water and unbeaten eggs and beat one minute. Sift the flour, cocoa and soda together three times. Then add dry ingredients alternately with 1 cup buttermilk. Beat only until smooth. Bake in 350 degree oven for approximately 35 minutes.

COCOA MOCHA ICING:

2 c. powdered sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
3 tbsp. cocoa
3 tbsp. butter
3 tbsp. cold coffee

Sift together powdered sugar, cocoa and salt. Cream butter and vanilla. Add alternately cocoa mixture and coffee.
