GOOD CAKE 
2 c. flour
1 1/3 c. sugar
3 level tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
3 egg yolks plus 1 whole egg
1 c. milk

In a large mixing bowl, put all ingredients, mix well with Mixmaster, about 3 minutes. Pour into three 9 inch cake pans which have been greased and floured, or use wax paper in bottom of pans. Bake at 325 degree for 30 minutes. Frost with Fluffy Boiled Icing.

FLUFFY BOILED ICING:

1 1/2 c. sugar
1/3 c. water
2 tbsp. white Karo
Dash of salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix all ingredients in saucepan. Boil slowly without stirring until mixture will spin a long thread when a little is dropped from spoon. Beat 3 egg whites in large mixing bowl until stiff, pour syrup slowly over egg whites a little at a time, return pan to heat after each pour. Beat until icing will hold its shape. Spread some icing on cake plate before you put the first layer down. Put icing between all 3 layers and top (use a lot). Add nuts, coconut, or fruit to icing.
