ROTKRAUT 
2 lb. red cabbage
1/4 c. Crisco
1 med. onion
1-3 apples
1 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. vinegar
1/4 to 3/8 liter of water
Salt, bay leaf, and 2 cloves
1-2 tsp. flour
2 tbsp. cranberries (optional)
4 tbsp. red wine

Wash, core and finely chop cabbage. Into Crisco, brown onion, sugar, and cut apples. Stir in cabbage and immediately pour vinegar over mixture. Cover and let simmer for 10 minutes. Add some water and the spices, stir. Simmer covered for 30-45 minutes or until soft (add remaining water as needed). Stir in flour to desired consistency. Add cranberries and red wine to taste.
