2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 eggs
1 c. sugar
1 c. chopped dates
1 c. chopped nuts
3/4 c. shortening
2 tbsp. milk
1/3 c. maraschino cherries
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening, sugar, add eggs, milk, and vanilla. Fold in nuts and dates. Then add remaining dry ingredients. Roll cookie mixture into 1 inch balls, cut maraschino cherries in half, top each cookie with 1/2 cherry. Bake in 375 degree oven for 10 minutes or until light brown.
