PORTUGUESE MALASADAS | |
1/2 c. warm water 2 pkg. active dry yeast 1/2 c. lukewarm milk 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 c. butter 2 eggs, beaten 1 tsp. salt 4 to 5 c. flour vegetable oil Pour warm water into mixing bowl and add dry yeast, stirring to dissolve. Stir in milk, sugar, butter, eggs, salt and 3 1/2 cups flour; mix with wooden spoon until smooth. Gradually add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough that can be easily handled. Mix by hand and turn dough out onto a lightly floured work surface. Knead until smooth and elastic (8-10 minutes). Place in a cleaned and greased bowl and allow to rise until dough doubles in size. Heat oil to 375°F. Break a piece of dough into size desired. Stretch out and drop into hot oil. Fry until golden then roll in granulated sugar. |
