BUTTER ROLL 
2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. self rising flour
1/2 c. shortening
6 eggs
1/4 c. water
1 1/2 cans Pet milk
2 tbsp. vanilla
3 sticks butter, softened

Mix flour and shortening with fork until crumbly. Add the water to make soft dough. Turn out on floured surface. Roll out thin like pie crust. Spread the softened butter over the crust. Sprinkle one cup of the sugar over butter then shake 1 tablespoon of the vanilla over the sugar.

Roll up like a jelly roll. Cut into about 1 inch slices. Put in single rows cut side up in a large baking dish or pan which has been sprayed with Pam.

Bake at 350 degrees until done but not brown. Take out of oven. Mix the 6 eggs, the other cup of sugar, milk and the other tablespoon vanilla. Mix well. Pour over the hot butter roll. Return back to oven and bake until custard is set about 30 to 40 minutes.
