OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk
3 c. uncooked oatmeal
1/2 c. raisins
Chopped nuts; optional
1 3/4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg

Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs together until light and fluffy. Stir in buttermilk. Sift together dry ingredients. Slowly stir into creamed mixture. Stir in oats. Add raisins and nuts; optional. Drop 2 tablespoon sized balls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake in preheated 400 degree oven for about 8 minutes. Makes 5 dozen.
