GRANDMA'S CHOCOLATE CAKE | |
2 c. sugar 2 c. flour 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 lb. butter 4 sq. chocolate 1 1/4 c. cold water 3 eggs 3 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. vanilla 1. Cut butter in small pieces. Add sugar, flour and salt. Work with fingers until mealy. 2. Melt chocolate and water together in double boiler, cool. Add to above and mix. 3. (Optional) Put mixture in freezer 1 hour. 4. Add eggs (drop in unbeaten), baking powder and vanilla. 5. Mix well. 6. Butter a 9.5 inch angel food cake pan. 7. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. GRANDMA'S CHOCOLATE ICING: 1. Melt 2 squares chocolate and 1/2 stick butter in double boiler. 2. Add 2 cups confectioners' sugar, 1/4 cup milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla. 3. Mix with whisk in double boiler. 4. Beat over ice water until shiny and holds shape. |
