SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKEN & GRAVY | |
8 pieces cut up chicken 1 lb. flour Lots of salt & pepper Garlic powder, optional Vegetable oil Lg. iron skillet Brown paper bag Clean chicken real good. Put flour and seasonings (lots of salt and pepper) you could never put too much salt!, in brown bag. Shake 2-3 pieces at a time. Now shake some more! Then, take out and put in iron skillet of 1 inch of oil in pan thats been preheated on medium high. Don't have chicken touch each other. Put skin side down. Put lid on and bake approximately 20 minutes. Make sure it browned good then, turn over, take off lid and cook on medium for 20 more minutes. Only turn once. Drain on brown paper bags. GRAVY: Drain excess oil, leave crumbs. Add 3 tablespoons flour, lots of salt and pepper. Brown flour then add water about an inch. Cook on medium until thick. Substitute milk for water if you'd like. |
