SOUR CUCUMBER PICKLES | |
Soak cucumbers overnight in strong salty water. Next morning take out and wash good in cold water and put in a vessel of some kind. Put in grape leaves, a layer, top layer to 1 gallon of cucumber put 1 teaspoon of powdered alum or a small lump. Pour enough boiling water over them to cover. Set on back of stove to keep warm. Put vinegar on to boil. Pack cucumber in jar and pour boiling vinegar over them. Use spice if so desired. The grape leaves are to retain the green color. |
