CHOCOLATE CARAMEL LAYER BARS 
1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
1/2 c. butter, melted
1 can evaporated milk
1 bag chocolate chips
40 caramels

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix cake mix, butter and 1 cup of evaporated milk together with mixer. Place 1/4 to 1/2 of mixture on bottom of a 9 x 13 x 2 inch pan. Bake for 6 minutes exactly. Sprinkle chocolate chips over baked mixture. Melt caramels and 1/2 cup of evaporated milk. Mix until smooth and creamy. Pour over chocolate chips. Let cool until caramel is set. Dab on the rest of the cake mixture. Spread evenly over cake with wet spatula without mixing into the caramel. Bake for 20 to 40 minutes, checking often after 20 minutes. Let cool at least 2 hours. Cut into 1 inch squares.
