FRUIT CAKE COOKIES 
2/3 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. candied cherries
1/2 c. candied pineapple
1/2 c. mixed candied fruit
1/2 c. pecans, chopped
1/2 c. walnuts

In large mixing bowl, combine sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla. Beat well. Stir together flour, soda, salt and add to creamed mixture beating until combined. Stir in fruit and nuts. Chill batter.

NOTE: I sometimes soak the fruit and nuts in small amount of rum. You may need to add more flour. Drop by teaspoonful on greased cookie sheet and baked at 225 degrees for 10 minutes.
