CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES 
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 egg
1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tbsp. salt
6 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tbsp. baking soda
1/2 c. chopped nuts
2/3 c. soft shortening (part butter)

Mix shortening, sugar, brown sugar, the egg, and the vanilla together. Sift together the flour, soda, and salt and add to the other mixture. Then stir in the nuts and chocolate chips. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees until lightly browned. Do not over bake. Carefully remove to paper towels to cool.
