THE GREAT CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE 
2 1/4 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. butter, soft
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. packed light brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
2 c. (12 oz. pkg.) semi sweet chips
1 c. chopped nuts, optional

Heat oven to 375 degrees. In bowl stir together flour, baking soda, and salt. In large mixer bowl beat butter, both sugars, and vanilla until creamy. Add eggs; beat well. Gradually add flour mixture, beating well. Stir in chips and nuts. Drop by rounded teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 9 to 11 minutes or until lightly browned. Makes about 6 dozen.
