ITALIAN CREAM CAKE 
1 stick butter
1/2 c. Crisco
2 c. sugar
5 egg yolks
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. plain flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. coconut
5 egg whites, beaten

Beat egg whites. Set aside. Cream butter, Crisco and sugar. Add egg yolks. Add flour and soda alternating with buttermilk and vanilla. Stir in nuts and coconut. Fold in egg whites. Bake in three 9 inch cake pans (greased and floured) at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.

ICING:

8 oz. cream cheese
1 stick butter
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix all ingredients. Spread between layers and on top and sides. Sprinkle with chopped nuts.
