STEAMED BROWN BREAD | |
1 c. corn meal 1 c. whole wheat flour 1 c. sifted flour 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 1 c. raisins 1/2 c. brown sugar 1/4 c. molasses 2 c. buttermilk 1. Sift corn meal, whole wheat flour, salt, baking powder and soda together. 2. Add raisins, brown sugar, molasses and buttermilk; beat thoroughly. 3. Fill 2 greased (1 pound coffee cans), 3/4 full, cover with 3 thickness wax paper or foil or both. 4. Place pans in steamer, cans setting on a rack, 2 quarts boiling water. Cover, steam 3 hours. Good served, butter, cream cheese. Good to eat with Boston baked beans. |
