BUTTER EGG BRAID | |
1 pkg. dry yeast 1/2 c. warm water 1 tsp. sugar 2 c. milk 3 tbsp. sugar 1 tbsp. salt 1/2 c. butter 2 eggs 6 1/2 - 7 c. flour Dissolve yeast in water and 1 teaspoon sugar. Scald milk, add sugar, salt and butter. Let cool. Combine milk mixture, yeast and eggs. Add 1 cup flour, beat until smooth. Add remaining flour, beating constantly. Knead 8-10 minutes. Place in greased bowl and let rise until doubled. Punch down and let rise 30 minutes. Divide dough in two, then each one into 3 pieces. Roll each into a rope about 12 inches long. Braid. Place loaves on cookie sheets and let rise about 30 minutes. Brush top with mixture of 1 egg white and 2 tablespoons water. Bake 30-40 minutes at 375 degrees. Cool on wire rack. |
