APPLE SQUARES 
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
1 c. crushed cornflakes
1 c. sugar
4-6 peeled apples
Cinnamon to taste
2 eggs, separated

Mix flour, salt and shortening as for pie crust. Beat egg yolks. Add enough water to egg yolks to make 2/3 cup liquid. Add to flour mixture and mix well. Divide dough in half. Roll out half of dough and place on cookie sheet. Sprinkle with crushed cornflakes and sliced apples. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over apples. Roll out other half of dough and place on apples.

Beat egg whites until stiff. Spread over top crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes. Dribble with confectioners' sugar icing while still warm.
