SWEDISH COFFEE BREAD 
1 c. scalded milk
2/3 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
6 to 10 crushed cardamom seeds (about 12)
2 pkgs. yeast
1/3 c. shortening
3 beaten eggs
4 to 6 c. flour (about 5)

Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water to which 1 tablespoon sugar has been added, let raise.

Scald milk and then melt shortening into the milk. Let it cool to lukewarm. Add yeast. Add beaten eggs, sugar, cardamom and salt.

Beat in flour. Let rise 2 hours. On greased and lightly floured board divide each part into three. Make into long rolls the length of a 13 x 9 inch pan. Braid, put in greased pan and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Pieces of the cherries may also be tucked into the top of the braid.

Raise 45 minutes. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 to 35 minutes.
