PLAIN PASTRY 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
Ice water
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
Salt

Cut shortening into flour in which baking powder and salt have been sifted thoroughly. Mix with small amount of ice water, using knife. Roll out, spread with butter. Dust lightly with flour; roll and chill before using.
