1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. baking soda (in buttermilk)
2 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. nutmeg

Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten eggs and 1/2 cup buttermilk with soda dissolved in it. Mix flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg; add to other mixture. Roll out. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Makes approximately 4 dozen.
