1 c. sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
1 1/2 c. flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1/2 c. boiling water

Combine all dry ingredients. Add shortening, egg, milk, and vanilla. Add boiling water and beat for 3 minutes. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
