1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. applesauce
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 c. raisins
3/4 c. chopped nuts

Cream shortening and sugar together. Add egg and beat well. Blend in applesauce. Sift together next 7 ingredients. Blend into creamed mixture. Stir in raisins and nuts. Turn into 8 inch square pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Good with orange or lemon flavored frosting.
