1/2 c. lukewarm water
1 tsp. salt
1/4 c. sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 c. flour
1/2 c. melted, lukewarm shortening
1 c. water
3 1/2 c. flour

Dissolve yeast cake in 1/2 cup lukewarm water. Add salt, sugar, beaten egg and 1 cup flour. Add 1/2 cup shortening (melted), 1 cup water and 3 1/2 cups flour; mix well. Place in refrigerator. Dough can be kept in refrigerator for several days.

Make into rolls and let rise (out of refrigerator) about 2 hours before baking. Bake in hot oven (450-475 degrees). Grease with melted butter or shortening just as they begin to brown. (Be sure shortening and water are lukewarm.)
