CHOCOLATE FILL BARS
FILLING:

175 gr (6 oz.) chocolate chips
1 can sweetened condensed milk
2 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Makes one pan, 17 x 11 x 1 inch. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or less.

Use bowl or glass measuring pitcher and melt the filling ingredients in microwave, mixing well when melted or use double boiler. Set aside and prepare crust.

Note: Pan size is important for satisfactory results. Watch the baking time, checking well ahead of 20 minutes. Dough should look firm on edges but very soft in center. Do not over bake.

CRUST:

1 c. butter
2 c. brown sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour (I use whole wheat)
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. oatmeal (quick cooking)

Cream together the butter and sugar and add vanilla and eggs, beat well. Mix together the flour, salt, soda and add to creamed mixture. Add and mix well the oatmeal. Reserve 1 cup of mixture. Spread remaining dough evenly over greased pan. Pour chocolate mixture over dough and spread evenly. Drop rest of dough by spoonfuls onto chocolate. DO NOT spread. Bake. Cut while slightly warm.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
