BISCOTTI 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. anise flavoring
3 tsp. baking powder
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped almonds

Cream shortening with sugar, add eggs one at a time and beat well. Add flour, baking powder and salt. Stir in flavoring and nuts. Divide into two balls and roll on lightly floured board in long rope length. Roll onto a cooking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. While warm slice diagonally, lay them on the cut side, return to oven and bake 5-10 minutes, turn over and bake 5-10 minutes longer until lightly brown.
