ONE LAYER FUDGE CAKE 
1/4 c. shortening
2 squares unsweetened chocolate
1/2 c. water
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/4 c. buttermilk

In saucepan, melt shortening and chocolate. Add water, sugar, and vanilla; cool. Add egg; mix well. Sift together dry ingredients and add to chocolate mixture alternately with buttermilk. Pour into greased and floured 6"x9" pan. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 30 minutes.

FUDGE ICING:

1/4 c. butter
1/2 c. cocoa
1/3 c. canned milk
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix all ingredients. Bring to boil and boil one minute. Remove from heat and beat until creamy. Pour over hot cake. Serve warm.
