1 c. shortening
2 eggs, well beaten
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. flour
2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. quick oats

Cream shortening with the brown sugar. Add eggs, soda dissolved in 1/4 cup boiling water, salt, and vanilla. Mix. Add flour and oats and mix all together. Drop by teaspoons on a cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.
