APPLESAUCE FRUIT CAKE 
4 c. flour
2 c. sugar
4 eggs, beaten
3 c. hot apple sauce
2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. lard and butter, mixed
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. raisins
1 c. dates
1 c. nuts
About 1 lb. candied fruit can be added

Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs and the soda added to warm applesauce and beat well. Sift flour with spices, salt and cocoa. Dredge fruit and nuts in the flour mixture. Add to creamed mixture. Turn into large tube cake pan, which has been greased well and lined with wax paper and grease again. Bake slowly at 325 degrees about 1 1/2 hours. Let cool, then remove cake from pan. Remove wax paper.
