OKRA AND TOMATOES 
1 lb. okra, sliced
1/4 c. bacon drippings
1 onion, chopped
2 (16 oz.) cans peeled tomatoes
1/2 c. chopped sweet pepper
1/2 c. water
1 tbsp. dried sweet basil
2 bay leaves
Garlic powder
Salt and black pepper
Red pepper

Saute okra in bacon drippings on low flame for about 30 minutes, or until the okra is not slimy. Add onions and fry for 10 minutes. Let simmer for 30 minutes. Serves 6.
