BAKED FRENCH TOAST 
1 baguette French bread or 18 slices of white bread
6 lg. eggs
1 1/2 c. milk
4 tsp. sugar
Maple syrup
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. light cream or half & half
1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1/4 c. butter
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
Walnuts, optional

Cut bread into 1/2 inch cubes. Butter 9 inch square baking pan. Arrange bread in pan to fill it completely. In bowl combine eggs, milk, cream, vanilla, sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix and beat well. Pour over bread cubes. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Next day: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In small bowl melt 1/4 cup of butter and add to it 1/2 cup of firmly packed brown sugar with walnuts, if desired, and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon. Spread over bread mixture evenly. Bake about 1 hour or until puffed and golden. Serve with maple syrup. Serves 6-8.
